Year Five

Welcome to YEAR 5!

OUR TEAM CONSISTS OF:

MISS. CREE (CLASS TEACHER)
MRS WILYMAN(TEACHING ASSISTANT)

We can no longer call ourselves new! We have been made to feel very welcome and have settled nicely into St. Joseph's!

THE CHILDREN

We are a lively and hard working bunch! Through our IPC unit at the beginning of term, we have discovered that we have many talents, including: fishing, playing a variety of instruments, dribbling a football, skateboarding and breakdancing!

IN YEAR 5 WE:

  • Understand the importance of setting a good example to the younger children.

  • Work hard.

  • Follow our Golden Rules.

  • Follow our Reward and Sanctions codes.

    Year 5 Reward Code.doc Year 5 Reward Code.doc
  • Understand that everyone deserves respect.

  • Have high expectations for ourselves.

  • Have fun!

WHAT'S ON IN YEAR 5?

Literacy: Author Studies, Performance Poetry, Traditional Tales (with lots of mythical beasts and heroes with amazing super powers!), instructions and persuasive writing (we can be very persuasive in year 5!)

Numeracy: Mental and written calculations, times tables practice (with the Terror Tables!), shape, space and measures, data handling. We learn a variety of strategies and choose the way that suits us and gets the right answer!

IPC: How we learn, how the brain works, settlements and exploring maps of Otley and the wider community, the global market (how far have your pair of trainers travelled?!), myths and legends and different cultures.

RE: Creation, the 10 Commandments, inspirational people (we all know so many of those), praying and reflecting on the rosary, writing prayers for collecitve worship, class masses.

We understand in Year 5 that Jesus is at the heart of everything we say and do. Every day we are trying to follow him and lead good lives.
