 Our Class

In Year 1 our teacher is Miss Davis. We are also very lucky to have Mrs Boyce and Mrs Atala every morning and Mrs Russell and Miss Wilkinson every afternoon.

We began the new school year with our topic on the circus. Since then we worked on our Celebrations topic. We are now very excited about our work on Communication in our Media Magic topic. Our role play area has become 'The Entertainment Hub' where you will find all the latest breaking news as well as an array of new and innovative programmes. Throughout the rest of the year we will explore, Clothes, Flowers and Insects and Transport.

Our classroom is very exciting and colourful and was refurbished just last year. We have a story castle, a role play, a post office, a shop, a making area, sand, a malleable area, 2 computers, a challenge table, a small world tray, a listening area and we still manage to fit all 30 children, Miss Davis, Mrs Boyce Mrs Atala, Miss Wilkinson and Mrs Russell in! Oh an not forgetting Carlos our class puppet and Flat Stanley...but he doesn't take up much room!

We have been making 3d maps for International Film Studios. They are making a new spy film set in England and are going to film a car chase. They wanted us to show them the types of things they would find on English roads to make the scene as exciting as possible. We included traffic lights, one way streets, double yellow lines, speed bumps, rivers, bridges, roundabouts, sign posts, telegraph poles and of course St Joseph's!

We received some disturbing news at the start of our fairytale topic. If our source is to be believed (Mr B.B Wolf) the fairytales we all know and love have vilified all of the innocent characters and the stories are all a gross misunderstanding resulting from unfortunate coincidences! The fairytale characters have enlisted our help to set the record straight and we are in the process of giving these characters a make-over to make them look more presentable, much like the 'goodies' in the story and put their side of the story across. We have created our own fairytale kingdom on the wall in our cloakroom.

The Wizard of Oz

We then moved somewhere over the rainbow all the way to Oz and Miss Davis' FAVOURITE! We created our own representations of the setting and characters through maps and stick puppets to use in our own retellings. We even made our own feature film version and then went on to create some incredibly detailed retellings of the story!

We had a fabulous time at the Media Museum to finish off our Communication topic!

It's a good job the camera was invented since we are real posers!

But we finally got to the part of the day that held such excitement, anticipation and significance. The part of the day we asked Miss Davis about from the moment we set foot on the coach...
