Year Six have had a busy first half term- here we are taking a break by the climbing wall.
Take a look at our "Autumn" display in the hall. We have been thinking about "Personification Poetry" and turned our poems into leaves on the Autumn tree.
HEALTHY EATING
Year 6 children have a fruit stall in the school hall at morning break time. Children can purchase fruit for 20p per item. The fruit is delivered fresh daily, purchased from a local supplier in Otley. We try to stock a variety of fruit when in season, and always welcome suggestions from the children. Profit made by the stall is used by the School Council (children from each class) to purchase items that have been requested by children in the school. The School council meets fortnightly to discuss issues with Mrs Brook.
When the Reception children start school in September, they are allocated a ‘buddy’ in Year 6, a special friend to help them settle into school life. The buddy system is a highly successful partnership between the Reception and Year 6 classes, which enriches all the children in many ways.
To begin with, the buddies join the Reception class a few minutes before morning playtime; they help the children to change shoes and accompany them onto the playground where they play games, chat and generally get to know each other. At the end of playtime, they take the children back to class. At lunchtime, the Year 6 buddies join their partners for a short time, under the careful supervision of the lunchtime supervisors, and help them to join in games with their own class. This usually takes a few weeks, after which time the ‘little ones’ are quite happy to play with their peers, and Year 6 (sometimes reluctantly!) return to their own friends.
As part of our history topic we recently visited Eden Camp. Here we are by a WW2 tank after experiencing the sights,
sounds and smells of the war.
